UIPI survey confirms the relevance of the Save the Homes project and the importance of helping property owners to renovate with initiatives such as One-Stop-Shops (OSSs)
The International Union of Property Owners (UIPI) conducted an online survey to assess European property owners’ capacity and willingness to renovate their homes, within the scope of action of EU- funded project TripleA-Reno. The goal was to assess whether property owners in Europe were considering/planning renovations before COVID-19 – and if so, what were they planning and why; and if not, why not – and the impact of COVID-19 on these renovation plans.
The results showed that respondents are willing to renovate but many times do not have the necessary means to do so. The main barrier identified by property owners was the financial one and the most desired incentives to be set in place are grants, subsidies and tax deductions. OSSs were not directly selected as one of the most desired support schemes, but if considering that other heavily demanded incentives are also offered/explained at the OSS, its relevance and usefulness are drastically increased.
Decomplexifying, establishing trust relationships, providing clear tailor-made information and offering continuous advice and support is essential if we aim to incentivise deep-renovations in the private real estate sector and enable the European Commission’s Renovation Wave. OSSs are the only model of support schemes to renovation so far that comprises all these services and has shown to be a great success in different applications and countries. Projects such as Save the Homes, which help proliferate its replication across EU Member States, play a crucial role in identifying best practices and effective business models to capitalise on gained knowledge, increase energy savings and obtaining client satisfaction.
