Municipality of Sant Cugat
The city of Sant Cugat del Vallès is located in the region of Catalonia, Spain, approximately 20 km away from Barcelona. The city of Sant Cugat del Vallès is a municipality of around 90.000 inhabitants that enjoy a privileged natural environment and urban green landscape with a strong commitment to sustainability. Is reference in urban quality, leader in the maintenance of public spaces and the provision of services for citizens by reducing their carbon footprint in line with its commitment to the sustainability of the planet. According to Smart City plan, the city put into operation different projects to test some of the existing innovative urban management systems. First results are the implementation of a guided vehicle parking, an intelligent garbage collection point, a street lighting sensitive to presence, an irrigation system dependent of the humidity levels and a pedestrian crossing equipped with lighted sensors, amongst others. According with its smart city strategy, Sant Cugat has also been one of the pioneer cities in Spain promoting the City Protocol Society. The City Protocol Society is an international forum that invites the city councils, industry, research organizations and other agencies involved in city transformation to work together in order to share knowledge and experiences in the sustainable transformation of urban spaces. This cross-sector partnership focuses on the establishment of international standards and politics that should drive the sustainable development of cities. The city of Sant Cugat del Vallès has defined the goal of becoming a “Smart City” by 2020 and therefore strengthens its focus on innovation based on public-private partnerships, with a strong commitment to testing and deploying forward-thinking solutions, together with private companies. The city has broad experience in successfully implementation of full-scale pilots in the city of the winning solutions, in order to evaluate the impact and to lead to broader implementation. Sant Cugat is developing many projects related to the plan, as the resilient assessment of the city, the sewage city master plan, the SEAPC, the Public Lighting Master Plan, the Mobility Plan, the Energy Management Plan for buildings, etc. Nowadays the new agenda 2030 is being developed. Resilience, air quality, mobility, climate adaptation and sustainability in general are the core of most of the activities carried out by the municipality. None of these activities will succeed without the participation of all citizens in the city, they are a valuable asset for us and we work hard to engage them and make them part of the decision process while increasing co-responsibility to become a real sustainable and resilient city.

josep maria mompin
Landscaper, agricultural engineer and environmentalist. Since 1989 he has been working in the management of green spaces and the urban landscape of the city of Mollet del Vallès, where since 2010 he has held various positions in the field of urban quality and environmental management.
For more than 20 years he has participated in numerous studies and urban projects, both in the field of administration and in his own consulting firm MF-Paisatge, as well as extensive experience in public administration and maintenance and environmental management and integrated environment.
In 2015 the City of Mollet del Vallès received the recognition “European Green Leaf 2015” the first year that the award of the European Commission recognizes the commitment of a city of less than 100,000 inhabitants, to obtain the best environmental results.
In September 2021 he joined Sant Cugat City Council as Director of Urban Quality, Mobility, Transport and sustainability, which includes the services of Waste Management and cleaning, Maintenance of Public Roads and Municipal Facilities, Logistics, Management of Green Spaces and Urban Environment.

Electrical engineer graduated from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and holds a Master Business Administration, from the University Polytechnic of Catalonia and a Master of Engineering Management and Renewable Energy, from the University of Barcelona. Between 2001 and 2004 he worked as an engineer in Grupo JG, a facility engineering company.
From 2008 to nowadays he works in the municipality of Sant Cugat del Vallès in the Urban Maintenance Service. Since 2021 he is the Head of the Urban Maintenance Service, being in charge of the maintenance of the municipal buildings and the urban areas of the city.
During this time, he has been involved in several European projects of the H2020 framework programme and Interreg MED program; BD4NRG, SunHorizon, GeoFit, CESBA MED, CHESS SETUP, NewTrend and R4E.
Marta Oliver
Biologist from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Master in Environmental Management and Sustainability from the University of Vic. She works in the municipality of Sant Cugat as an Environmental technician. Her main responsibilities are water saving and energy efficiency issues by adopting different measures in refurbished/new buildings by complying with local ordinances. She is also specialist in the coordination of sustainable action plans and adaptation in the city She is involve in other European projects such as BD4NRG, Sunhorizon, Geofit and finalized CESBA MED (Interreg MED program), H2020-EE-2014-3-MarketUptake and Roadmaps for Energy (R4E).
